DETECTION OF FIRST BRAIN INJURY IS CRITICAL
“Second impact” syndrome (exposure to concussion before recovery of the first injury) can result in longer term brain injury and even fatalities.
The American Centre of Disease Control (CDC)) reported that
- 1 year after original injury, 20% of individuals reporting mild TBI or concussion continue to experience post-concussion effects or cognitive defects.
- 1 in 5 student athletes report prolonged cognitive defects due to brain injury incidence
