ORION LIFESPAN™ MEG

For over 30 years, Compumedics has established itself as the premium provider of multi-modal (MEG, EEG, MRI, CT, SPECT, PET, etc.) brain analysis software and EEG amplifiers. In parallel, over a 30-year period the Korean Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) MEG team, led by Dr. Yong-Ho Lee have produced the most advanced magnetoencephalography (MEG) brain functional imaging sensing system.

Now, Compumedics is pleased to present the exciting Orion LifeSpan™ MEG system. Technological advances include increased precision, dual-helmet operation, 100% helium recycling with no downtime and full integration with CURRY™, the “gold standard” brain analysis software. The system incorporates high-density EEG up to 256 channels.

At the heart of the new system are patented double relaxation oscillation superconducting quantum interference device (DROS SQUID) sensors coupled with optimized second-generation axial gradiometer pickup coils. These are housed within a vibration-free, vacuum-cooled environment and combined with a 100% coolant recycler which allows continuous 24/7 operation. A unique dual-helmet dewar enables optimal brain function localization of both adult and paediatric populations. When run simultaneously, the two helmets are optimized for hyperscanning. A traditional single-helmet MEG is also available.

MEG provides orders of magnitude better temporal resolution than other technologies such as functional MRI or PET. In addition, MEG provides much better spatial resolution than even high-density EEG.

The Orion LifeSpan™ MEG will be installed at the world-renowned Tianjin Normal University (TJNU) in Tianjin, China. TJNU’s scientific capabilities are world-class and have won numerous awards for humanities and social sciences research achievements. The TJNU Brain Function Imaging Centre will include MRI, FNIRS, EEG/ERP, TMS and TCDS laboratories, alongside the Orion LifeSpan™ MEG. Research focuses on high efficiency learning, mental health, cognition and studying intellectual development of school-age children in the areas of reading, learning, neural mechanisms, etc.
